Why does this list start with Canute? The usual practice is to start with Egbert. The monarchy's official website starts with Offa. Whitaker's Almanac starts with Athelstan. I've never heard of starting with Canute. Peter Jackson 11:42, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Holy Writ (i.e., Pitkin Pride of Britain Books' "Britain's Kings and Queens" pamphlet) also begins with Egbert, although the line-of-descent table on the inside front cover goes several generations before him to Cerdic. And although I seem to have misplaced my Pitkin "Royal Line of Succession" book, I think it lists a line going back to Woden, with a disclaimer that the first several bazillion guys at the head of the list are legendary. By the way, where's the catalog to which this talk page is supposedly attached? I can't view it. Bruce M.Tindall 04:24, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Here is the catalog link England/Catalogs/Kings_and_Queens. Since this is part of the England cluster it would also be OK to discuss it at Talk:England Chris Day 06:23, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
