During the Vietnam War, YANKEE Station was a designation for the operating area of U.S. aircraft carriers operating against North Vietnam. It was not a fixed location in the South China Sea, but the current assigned area for a typically two-carrier Task Force 77 of the United States Seventh Fleet. Complementing it for operations in South Vietnam was the DIXIE Station operating area. YANKEE Station carriers provided naval air support for Operation Rolling Thunder, Operation Linebacker I and Operation Linebacker II. |
