Biography: I was born and raised in Hood River, Oregon just along the Columbia River border with Washington. I went to public high school and spent the majority of my time studying and playing soccer or basketball. After graduation I moved to college at the University of Washington in Seattle. There at college I learned of anthropology and student politics. During my first year there I began research on the Asante Nation in Ghana West Africa and wrote a resolution on the student senate for comprehensive film education, among numerous other activities. Then during my second year I studied abroad in Ghana to complete my research with Professor Ter Ellingson, author of The Myth of the Noble Savage. Upon return, I was accepted into the Henry M. Jackson School of Int'l Studies where I became interested in Turkish politics. Since then after, I traveled twice to Istanbul, once to do research and the other for language courses. Throughout my academic career I have maintained part-time occupations and currently live in Istanbul. This fall I will return to the University of Washington to complete my studies.
