Born in Baltimore to a missionary family, an Austrian mother and Pennsylvanian father, I grew up surrounded by international friends, family, and house guests. After countless kindergartens and eight different schools, I ended up attending and graduating with a Computer Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, in Atlanta. After ten or so years of serving the Atlanta area with my technology talents, and after a brief one-year stint as a bartender, I took a position at Clemson University. Two years later, I left the country and landed a position at the University of Innsbruck in Austria.
In high school I served as the main copy editor for a creative writing publication and a yearbook. In my first two years at college, I was a volunteer in the copy editing staff at the student newspaper, Technique. In recent years, I have helped PhD students and post-docs improve their journal submissions and research papers.
Throughout my youth, I displayed an aptitude at philosophy and theoretical psychology. I was a fervent Protestant from the age of 6 until almost the age of 18. At roughly the age of 22, I "converted" to atheism, and soon took a strong interest in the Skeptic and Objectivist movements.
