Mark Preston, born in St. Louis Missouri is an author and editor of books and articles about food and foodways. He has penned two cookbooks. The first: California Mission Cookery (Albuquerque : Border Books, 1994) ISBN: 0962386553 and The Hatch Chile Cookbook (Albuquerque : Border Books, 1994) ISBN: 1884374034. He freelances his writing and research to a number of businesses. Mr. Preston is often seen lurking around used bookstores in Southern Calfornia and Paris. His article on food and cancer is still a must read for folks: in-the-know. He is an excellent cook in his own rite. He may be willing to cook you a nice meal if you ask nicely.
In his spare time Mr. Preston volunteers with public service organizations such as the U.S.O. and organizations involved with civil rights providing free legal advice. He has worked as a paralegal and holds a degree in that field. He admits law is not much fun, however. Sometimes he turns hiimself into a gold prospector as the gold bug bit him a few years ago and he has permanent gold fever.
