In snakes, the paraventrals are longitudinal scale rows that border the ventral scales on either side of the body. They are slightly larger than scales located more dorsally, and in snakes that have keeled scales, these are generally smooth or only weakly keeled. The term paraventral also refers to the area to either side of the ventral scales.[1]
