Otto Wilhelm Luitpold Adalbert Waldemar Wittelsbach (27 Apr, 1848, Munich - 11 Oct, 1916) was the fifth King of Bavaria. Otto was the youngest son of King Maximillian II. After the untimely death of his older brother, King Ludwig II in 1886, Otto became King of Bavaria. Because Otto had exhibited signs of mental illness through much of his life, and had been imprisoned at Fürstenried Palace since 27 May, 1875, his uncle, Prince Luitpold, ruled in his stead as Prince Regent. Otto never married and had no children, therefore, he was succeeded as King by his cousin, Ludwig III.
