Richard Bernstein, a journalist, writes the "Letter from America" column in the International Herald Tribune. He was daily book critic for the New York Times (1995-2002), as well as United Nations and Paris bureau chiefs, and national cultural correspondent. He was Time (magazine)|Time's first Beijing bureau chief. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut, summa cum laude in 1966, he studied History and East Asian Languages at Harvard University receiving a master's degree in Chinese Setudies, becoming a part-time writer for the Washington Post while on fieldwork in Asia. His books have dealt with China and France, and more general issues such as multiculturalism, jihad and sexuality. |
