Hello there! I made an icon for the write-a-thon notice, I was wondering if we could use that? Writeathon.png Thanks,

--Paul Derry 13:17, 31 July 2007 (CDT)

Sorry Paul, I didn't see this until now. You should've left me a note on my user page. --Larry Sanger 14:50, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

Expository is perfect. I did have to check my dictionary though. The down side is that it rhymes with suppository, expect a few laughs at our expense :) Chris Day (talk) 14:54, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

Expository bliss is nice, but it doesn't match suppository bliss! --Larry Sanger 14:57, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

Great, so now nothing has to be accomplished on an infinate timeline! Awesome. I think it potentially sends the wrong message, imo. --Robert W King 15:00, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
I don't know if it's all that bad. Wikis are meant to be forever evolving, aren't they? On the other hand, I don't ever finish anything without a deadline. :-\ --Joe Quick (Talk) 15:22, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
What I'm implying Joe is that when you relinquish the idea that things should be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time, often they will never be accomplished. --Robert W King 15:29, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
Yes, I know. My last sentence was meant to acknowledge that. I sometimes forget that my preferred style of communication works not at all in print. --Joe Quick (Talk) 15:58, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
Agreed with Robert. I really like the former message, A wiki with real names and experts. Anton Sweeney 15:24, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
More like There once was a man called Sanger, Whose expository prose were so fine, his chance finally came, to show everyone his game, but it ended with suppository wine. :) Chris Day (talk) 15:03, 13 September 2007 (CDT)
We've developed a new wiki project,
and it operates with actual logic.
Our usernames are true,
our vandals are few,
and our solutions are not demagogic.
--Joe Quick
ROTFL! I love that one, Joe! --Larry Sanger 16:00, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

I think the current version [a wiki with experts...] is excellent, and fulfils its purpose very well. --Martin Baldwin-Edwards 15:54, 13 September 2007 (CDT)

Locally it still says 125. --Robert W King 12:28, 2 November 2007 (CDT)

Move to Anonnotice?

I think this notice is only useful for people without an account. Everybody who is logged in supposedly knows what we are doing, and so the notice does not serve any purpose. Thus, I think we should replace this by the single character '-', so that it's disabled for people who are logged in, and instead put the message in MediaWiki:Anonnotice.

See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interface/Sitenotice for technical information. -- Jitse Niesen 10:42, 3 March 2008 (CST)

You're absolutely right, Jitse. I didn't even know that "Anonnotice" existed. Thanks for telling me! --Larry Sanger 10:49, 3 March 2008 (CST)

Can we have a 'hide' button?

On Wikipedia, these kind of enormous notices can be hidden away. Yes, the Charter is very exciting, but I would now like to make the box go away so I can get on with building the encyclopedia... –Tom Morris 01:29, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Also, can we please have no more "click here". Click here is a bad idea. Up with this, I shall not put! –Tom Morris 01:32, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely, Tom, I agree with both of those ideas. If you know how to do the hide feature, go for it and change the "here", too while you're at it. D. Matt Innis 02:12, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
I think Jitse' comment from above applies, at least for the part not concerned with the elections. And Matt, both pages are in the MediaWiki namespace, which requires special privileges to edit (you have them, Tom and me not). --Daniel Mietchen 09:45, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah, of course! I'll take a look. D. Matt Innis 22:01, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
To my knowledge, we cannot have a hide button like WP as we do not have the software version necessary. --Chris Key 15:40, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
