Experimenting with the new policy suggestions

Martin, I'm with you on making some of the sub-quality or out-of-date Citable articles into normal articles again, or zapping really bad stubs etc. However, technically, there should be an election before making that official policy. But I've already experimentally revoked a few of the Citable articles in Computers that were terribly out of date and frankly embarrassing. I'm also forging ahead with allowing "lead authors" on articles, and possibly, multiple articles about a given topic (as long as they attempt to maintain an encyclopedic tone and objectivity), something I felt would help reduce conflict going forwards. So basically, I'm considering the policy suggestions as experimental policy for now. If we get more active authors in the future, we can debate it all more. In the meantime, if you see specific articles that you feel should be deleted, please contact either me and/or John S. and we'll look into it. Experimentally.

There once was a time when people would fight to the death before deleting anything. I now see the whole purpose of the wiki differently; no longer as competing directing with Wikipedia, but acting as a useful supplement to do the kinds of articles that the anonymous crowd-sourcing in Wikipedia tends to impede.Pat Palmer (talk) 18:41, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

The citable versions that stick in my mind are History of agriculture, North-west Passage, and Scarborough Castle . The "History of agriculture" is actually a history of European and American agriculture, which contains some obvious omissions. I corrected some omissions in the last two amendments made to the non-citable article. The North-west Passage has a statement about the end of Elizabethan exploration which is frankly wrong. It, and another fault, are corrected in the last two amendments I made to the non-citable article. In Scarborough Castle, which is otherwise a very good article, Richard has made the common mistake of referring to Pariamentary forces as "loyal to Oliver Cromwell" in 1642, when at that time Oliver had a largely local reputation (and was nowhere near the scene of action). I appear not to have corrected this, when I should have. I think there were others, but all observations were put into storage somewhere, because the exercise of reviewing the citable articles did not proceed.Martin Wyatt (talk) 20:08, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Martin, Thanks for your comments. John has removed the Citable versions of History of agriculture and North-west Passage, but not yet for Scarborough Castle. User:John_Stephenson said that he wrote some of that and he wonders if there is a misunderstanding (did not say that Cromwell was anywhere near the castle, for example; there is a hill called Oliver's Mount, but he was never there). I have not had time to review that article myself and know less that nothing about the topic. So for that one, feel free to go to the article Talk page and make suggestions for John to look at. And, do call any other Citable articles to our attention that have errors and need to be undone, or other things that are within out power to make better.
