Berch Berberoglu is Foundation Professor of Sociology, Director of Graduate Studies, Chair of the Department of Sociology, and Director of the Institute for International Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. His research areas are political economy, globalization, development, political sociology, nationalism and ethnonational conflict, class/race/gender, and comparative-historical sociology. In academic publishing, he is Series Editor for Palgrave Macmillan on the book series "Social Movements and Transformation" and serves as Series Editor for Ashgate on the book series "Globalization, Crises, and Change." Dr. Berberoglu has written and edited 26 books and many articles.
He has written on the role of the bazaari class in the 1979 Iranian Islamic revolution, seeing it in an unusual class alignment, with large landlords, to replace the upper middle class, which it had replaced in control of the peasantry in the Iranian White Revolution.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1977.
