An architect is a professional engaged in the art and science of designing buildings.
History & Etymology
The word architect comes from the Latin architectus, derived in turn from the Greek arkhitekton (arkhi, chief + tekton, builder)[1]

In most jurisdictions architecture is a regulated profession requiring extensive formal education and work experience prior to obtaining a licence.
