Alton Brown (born Los Angeles, California, July 30, 1962) is a well-known U.S. television personality and chef best known for his long-running show Good Eats seen on the Food Network. Good Eats mixes cooking, cooking techniques, and the science behind it in a quirky way. The show will end after 249 episodes although several specials are planned.[1][2]
During his professional career Brown was the director for photography for R.E.M.s music video The One I Love and has directed television commercials. As an author he has written Alton Brown's Gear for Your Kitchen, I'm Just Here for More Food: Food x Mixing + Heat = Baking, Good Eats: The Middle Years, and Good Eats: The Early Years.
Alton is a resident food historian and commentator on Food Network’s Iron Chef America. He also is a host and judge for the reality series The Next Iron Chef.
His love of cooking started early in life after being guided by both his mother and grandmother in all things culinary.
Brown attended the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont, US in preparation for writing and starring in his Food Network television show Good Eats.[3]
Gotta have an Apple
Brown purchased a Mac Classic in 1991 and is fond of Macintosh computers. He likes to use Sherlock (a Macintosh search feature) to help find information on the Internet using his iBook.
I've got the Special Edition graphite, which is perfect for me, and it cost $1,700. I could spend almost four grand for a full-blown PowerBook, but to tell you the truth, I don't need that. And I like the fact that the iBook's got a handle on it -- I can toss it around; it's extremely durable physically. It's got a great screen, I don't need a floppy drive, it's got CD-ROM, and I'm a huge USB fan.[4]
When not working on his Apple Inc. computer, Brown loves to ride motorcycles and owns a BMW R1100RT. He's a strong proponent of motorcycle safety and regularly attends Motorcycle Safety Foundation classes. When riding his BMW, he wears full protective gear including a helmet, ballistic jacket, pants, boots and rding gloves. "I don't feel right if I'm on the bike and not wearing my gear - it just feels -- well, wrong."[5]
Personal life
Brown lives near Atlanta, Georgia, USA with his wife, DeAnna, and their daughter, Zoey. The Brown family has two hound dogs.[6]In 1992, he received a full immersion baptism at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.[7]
