Alappuzha (Malayalam: ആലപ്പുഴ), earlier known as Alleppey, is a town in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India. It is known for its picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, and has been historically described as "Venice of the East".
