Nomenclature and links?
I created a cluster. Something about which I'm honestly not sure: is the proper nomenclature for U.S. Army firearms M-number or Mnumber? It's certainly the latter for vehicles and artillery; I've set up a redirect so both are covered.
It would be interesting to know the guidelines for replacing other MGs with this.
We really need a V-22 Osprey article, which I haven't gotten around to starting, if that interests you. Howard C. Berkowitz 18:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- I added the belt-fed description and deleted the magazine refrance as it seemed confusing when talking about a belt fed system. I also changed the refrance at the end from a bushmaster which is a single barrel gun to a GAU-8 which is a multi-barrel design, more of an apples to apples kinda thing. - Makes sense; I don't have as much hands-on experience as you do. Still, I was thinking of the box magazine on an M249. Isn't that basically an internal belt within guides, but not user-accessible; you can't, for example, clip a belt onto the end of a belt in use.
- We certainly could have an article on the GAU-8. Now that I think about it, though, the Bushmaster wasn't the best comparison, since it, as well as the GAU-8, are autocannons rather than machine guns. What would you think of a comparison to the M-61 Vulcan instead? Howard C. Berkowitz 19:47, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
