The New European Schemes for Signatures, Integrity and Encryption project, better known as NESSIE, was a project within the Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme of the European Commission which ran from early 2000 to 2003. It sought to choose a set of cryptographic mechanisms for a variety of purposes.
