Barry McCaffrey, general (retired), U.S. Army, is Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at the United States Military Academy, President of his own consulting firm, national security and terrorism analyst for NBC News, and is on a number of boards of directors. He left his last military post, commanding United States Southern Command, at Presidential request to become Director of the cabinet-level White House Office of National Drug Control Policy from 1996 to 2001, a position confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

In the nonprofit sector, he is a Director of the Atlantic Council, A a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; an Associate of the Inter-American Dialogue; a Principal for the Council on Excellence in Government; a member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies U.S.-Mexico Binational Council; Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Education Center Advisory Board; and a member of the Board of Advisors of the National Infantry Foundation.

He is a director of the HTNB Companies, DynCorp International, CRC Health Corporation, Global Linguist Solutions and McNeil Technologies.
