Percy Earl 1847-1947, was a British artist and a member of the Earl family. He was a fine painter in his own right, renowned for his paintings of horses, now considered some of the finest examples of horse portraiture of the period.^[1]. He painted dogs to a lesser extent; his horse portraits were distinguished by often included hounds in the painting. Today, however, his achievements have been largely eclipsed by those of his father, George, and his sister Maud, now the best remembered of the Earls.

Percy Earl did not exhibit widely; this was likely because, like so many artists of the day, the majority of his work would have been privately commissioned, in Percy’s case, by well-to-do sporting families.
