Geranium
From Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium
Geraniums, also called true geraniums, botanical geraniums, hardy geraniums or cranesbills are a popular flowering plant in the geraniaceae family. They were formerly classified in the same genus as pelargoniums, but these have now been separated into two genera.
Pelaroniums have been the more popular genus, but geraniums are making a comeback in horticultural circles. Geraniums can be distinguish from pelargoniums because the flowers are different: the geranium flower has five equally sized and shaped petals, while the pelargonium flower usually has two petals on the top and three on the bottom.
