Dan Quayle (full name: James Danforth Quayle) (born February 4, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana) was the 44th Vice President of the United States, from 1989 to 1993 under President George H.W. Bush. Quayle's tenure was marked by criticism and general bemusement at the litany of verbal gaffes he made while in office.

Quayle was born to Martha Corinne Pulliam, the daughter of conservative Indiana newspaper magnate Eugene C. Pulliam, and James Cline Quayle, who held a variety of positions at Pulliam's newspapers.
