Consciousness refers to the subjective experience of reality that is experienced by probably all mammals in some form and in its highest and most expressible form in humans through language and self-reporting of behaviour and thoughts. It is likely a consequence of certain properties of the neocortex and in primates a consequence of possessing a frontal motor control part of the neocortex.
