CZ:Proposals > Expandable sidebar
From Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium
| An author requested that a constable delete this page forthwith |
| actually this isn't necessary. i found out that it doesn't really matter whether you use wide screen or not. the font just gets larger in ratio to the number of pixels |

Complete explanation
A sidebar that expands & shrinks to enhance reading experience. It'd be best if the skin would recognize if the screen's widescreen or conventional & shrink into some sort of icon format maybe only when it's conventional.
Then it would expand when a mouse pointer comes over it (not near it b/c that would disable people from clicking or selecting the parts of the article that are near the sidebar). when it expands, it should/must blind some part of the article content itself.
Reasoning
Because more Citizens are using widescreen displays to edit, some articles don't look good in the conventional displays (1024 x 768) b/c the images don't fit or aren't aligned with the right paragraph, or images are too crowded & there are some ugly empty spaces, etc. Furthermore, Citizendium articles tend to have its paragraphs divided in large & dense, informative chunks, so they look really ugly & suffocating sometimes in the conventional displays while they look better in the widescreen.
Implementation
Simple. A developer builds a new skin, have people test it in various resolutions, widescreen & conventional.
