Boston is a city in the north-east of the United States of America, capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and arguably the cultural heart of the New England region. Locals, known as 'Bostonians,' number around 600,000 people, and generations of them have lived through their home's growth from a tiny English colony founded in 1630, to a battleground during the American Revolution and latterly a thriving centre of education, numbering Boston University among its many schools and colleges. The city's best-known sports teams are the Boston Red Sox (baseball) and the New England Patriots (American football).
