A toy is an object that by either owning or playing with one brings joy to an animal or person, usually a child. There are toys however that are considered "adult" which are expensive, grandious, elaborate, or extremely functional and illicit a feeling of desire. A corvette is often referred to as a "toy" in the grown-up world, whereas a rattle would be a toy for a baby. Humans also buy toys for their pets: for cats, animals stuffed with catnip; for dogs, a rubber bone or a facsimilie of a real-world item that is designed to "squeak".
