Bob Barr (born Robert Laurence Barr, Jr. on November 5, 1948) is a former Republican party member of the United States House of Representatives who served Georgia's 7th congressional district from 1995-2003. In 2004, he left the Republican party and endorsed the Libertarian Party's ticket, formally joining in 2006. On May 12, 2008, he declared his intention to seek the nomination of the Libertarian Party for President of the United States and received the nomination at the Libertarian Party's National Convention on May 25, 2008. Barr faced Republican nominee John McCain and likely Democratic nominee Barack Obama in the fall elections.

Personal life

Barr was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Robert L. Barr, Sr. and Beatrice Barr.
