He is wearing a Stahlhelm (steel helmet), trench coat and Pour le Mérite, the Kingdom of Prussia's highest military order until the end of World War I. Göring was the earliest leader of the SA (Storm Troops) and took part in the failed Munich Putsch, receiving serious wounds at the Feldherrenhalle, when the army troops opened fire on the Nazi marchers in 1929.
