Cortisone is a naturally occuring glucocorticoid steroid hormone. Many steroid-based drugs designed to reduce inflammation, including hydrocortisone, cortisone acetate, fludrocortisone, deltahydrocortisone and prednisone are similar in structure and function. In general, glucocorticoids lessen swelling, redness, itching and allegric reactions and are used to treat allergies, asthma, arthritis and sundry skin conditions.
