The U.S. Army is a shorter-barreled and generally lighter-weight version of the standard M16 rifle. It takes the same ammunition, but is more convenient in vehicles and in the close spaces of urban combat.
Like the M16, it has a Picatinny rail system that accepts accessories common to both types.
