Born in South Bend Washington, John quickly moved through a variety of locations. Attending the University of California Davis, he discovered he had a knack for working with computers, working on an early 'portable' PC running the CP/M operating system on an Osborne luggable. Shortly afterward he obtained an uninfluential position at the then renowned software company, Borland International. After nearly a two-decade tour he departed to seek tenure in the government sector.
