Mignonette is the common name for Reseda odorata, a tall (up to 30 inches) annual herb cultivated for its flowers, which can last for several weeks after cutting and have a strong, spicy odor.

This plant originated in Libya and was known to the Romans, who believed it could help heal bruises (the name Reseda comes from Latin for "to calm"). It grows best in well-drained soils, with partial shade if in a climate where the summers are especially long or hot.
