If Americans Knew is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, U.S. interest group and education organization, focused on the Israel-Palestine Conflict as well as broader U.S. foreign policy regarding the Middle East, and media coverage of this issue. It describes its objective "is to provide information that is to a large degree missing from American press coverage of this critical region."[1]

Leadership

It was founded by Alison Weir, who, in 2001, traveled in the Occupied Territories and concluded the picture presented int he U.S. was not accurate, and not consistent with the reporting of international media. According to the organization's website, "she founded an organization to be directed by Americans without bias and ethnic ties to the region who would research and actively disseminate accurate information to the American public."

Board members include former Rep. Paul Findley, chairman of the Council for the National Interest, and Ambassador Andrew Killgore. Ambassador Killgore served as a career foreign service officer and as a U.S. Ambassador. In 1982, he co-founded the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs.

Positions

The group summarizes the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza as in violation of the Geneva Conventions' requirements for an Occupying Power.

Criticism

The Anti-Defamation League lists it, in October 2010, as one of its top 10 anti-Israel organizations. [2]
