Pritchett, Henry S. "The Story of the Establishment of the National Bureau of Standards," Science, n.s., 15, no. 373 (February 21, 1902): 281-284.
   Short article describing the conditions and context for the creation of the National Bureau of Standards under the US Coast and Geodetic Survey (of which Pritchett was the director) within the Department of the Interior. Pritchett, an astronomer and future president of MIT and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, was the principle advocate for the creation of the NBS and worked under Vanderlip.
