Eggs Benedict is a popular brunch dish of a poached egg placed over bacon, ham, or so-called Canadian bacon on a toasted English muffin and then served with hollandaise sauce. Its exact origin is disputed, but many accounts say it was invented in one of the restaurants of the old Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City towards the end of the 19th century.
