Debate on the norm for French in Canada
From Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium
The debate on the norm for French in Canada opposes two schools of thought: one in favor of the local form of French as a norm for French-speakers in Canada and the other in favor of a more international French, more in accordance with the French spoken in Paris.
History
Jean-Claude Corbeil believes the debate goes back to 1760, but has intensified around 1955, just before the beginning of the quiet revolution in Quebec[1].
