Hello _______,

My name is ________ and I am the Approvals Manager for Citizendium, the Citizens' Compendium. I'd like to ask for your help, but first I should tell you a little bit about our project. You may have read about Citizendium in the Chronicle of Higher Education or any number of print and online news sources since we opened to the public in March 2007. The project was started by a cofounder of Wikipedia, Larry Sanger. It operates on a similar principal to Wikipedia and makes use of the same basic software but Citizendium offers something more: reliability. In addition to the rank-and-file authors who create most of the content on the site and come from all over the world and all educational backgrounds, we recruit subject experts who we call "editors". The editors' role is to provide gentle guidance to other contributors on the development of our content and to review articles for accuracy and completeness before they are officially "approved". You might want to take a look at some of the articles that have already been approved to get an idea of our standards; a list may be found at this web address: _________.

Of course, in order to create a large pool of approved articles, we need subject area experts from many different fields. Some of our authors have prepared an article on ___________ and have marked it as a "developed article," which means that it is ready for an editor to review it and possibly to give it a stamp of approval. At the moment, however, there are no editors registered with the project who have the background and experience to fill that role. This is where you come in. If you have the time, we'd like to ask you to review the article and provide some guidance on any issues that might need to be addressed before it is approved.

If you're interested, please have a look at the article, which can be found here: ______________. Then, if you can help, let me know at approvals@citizendium.org and I'll set up an account for you. I can fill you in on the details and the mechanics of the approval process then.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much for your time,
